Dr. Osman Hashim Ibrahim

Osman Hashim is a Veterinary Surgeon who introduced to the research field as a researcher at Animal Resources Research Corporation (ARRC), Sudan. He had had studies animals’ vaccinology, virology and veterinary immunology as former researcher in ARRC. Joining Ministry of Water, Environment and Agriculture (MEWA), Saudi Arabia as virology specialist boosts his contributions in veterinary research field by comparing research findings with applied veterinary medicine. In his current position at MEWA, he has been responsible for planning and implementing of animal diseases’ control strategies. One of the highlights from his current job is the implementation of the first epidemiological studies on MERS-CoV. He contributed recently as co-investigator in KIMARC research number (RC16/093/R) under the title “Evaluation of Adenoviral Vector-based MERS-CoV vaccine in dromedary camels in Saudi Arabia”. Dr. Mohammed Abu Saeed

Dr. Mohammad Bosaeed is currently working as an Infectious Diseases Consultant at the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs. He obtained his MBBS degree at King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, KSA. He completed his Internal Medicine residency and adult Infectious Diseases Fellowship Training at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, KSA. Dr. Bosaeed has a particular interest in Transplant Infectious Diseases, where he was granted a one-year clinical fellowship at the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
After he completed his training in Canada, he joined as a consultant in Infectious Diseases in King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh
At KAIMRC Dr. Bosaeed is the Principle Investigator of the first phase I clinical trial” A phase I clinical trial to determine the safety and immunogenicity of the candidate MERS-CoV vaccine ChAdOx1 MERS in healthy adult volunteers in Saudi Arabia”.

Dr. Majed Alghoribi

Dr. Majed Alghoribi is the Chairman of the Infectious Diseases Department at King Abdullah International Medical Research Center-Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Dr Alghoribi has received his PhD in Infection, immunity, inflammation and repair from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom and completed his postdoctoral fellowship in microbial genomics and bioinformatics at Public Health England (PHE)-London, United Kingdom. His research interests are centring around epidemiology, prevention and transmission of antimicrobial resistance. He recognized the need to develop better AMR monitoring and surveillance program thought “one health” approach using the power of next-generation sequencing, applied bioinformatics and public health microbiology. This will help to understand the mechanisms of resistance, modes of transmission, dissemination and prevention of clinically and public health relevant pathogens.

The Infectious disease research department (IDRD) is a prime department at King Abdullah International Medical Research Center. The IDRD is divided into the following units i) ‎‎Microbial Genomics and AMR Unit ii) Virology and Vaccine Development unit iii) Biosafety Level 3 laboratory (BSL3). The department is dedicated to enhancing prevention and treatment of infectious diseases through diversified basic, translational, and clinical research activities, surveillance programs and reference laboratory services. This will be seamlessly integrated with education and training development to become the next generation of leaders in this field and attracting interdisciplinary national and international collaborators.

Eng. Fuad Mosa is Vice President of SABIC’s Local Content & Business Development Unit – an arm of the company created to develop local content in the Kingdom according to KSA 2030 Vision.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from KFUPM in Dhahran, a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from KSU in Riyadh and an MBA degree from Thunderbird School of Management in Arizona, USA.
He has over 20 years of experience in deferent fields related to petrochemical industry. He contributes in more than 35 patents during his earlier years of experience in developing deferent Technology for SABIC.
He serves as board member at deferent companies, centers and institutions; He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Nusaned Investment Company. Before appointed to his current role, he was serving as a General Manager of SABIC Global Chemical Technologies.

Dr. Majed Al Fadhel

Dr. Alfadhel is currently Deputy Executive of King Abdullah International Medical Research Centre (KAIMRC). The Head of Genetics Division, Department of Pediatrics at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and associate professor at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS). He is the director of medical genomic research laboratory at KAIMRC and established different innovative molecular genetic testing like whole genome sequencing and whole exome sequencing for example. Furthermore, he is the Editor in chief of journal of Biochemical and Clinical Genetics and editorial board member of four other journals for example: International Journal of Health Sciences, the Journal of Nature and Science of Medicine (JNSM), Frontiers in Pediatrics and Frontiers in Neurology journals.
He has published more than 115 research papers in the field of Genetics disorders in high impact factor journals for example New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Genetics etc… Additionally, he is authors of three books and chapter in other two books in the field of inborn errors of metabolism for example he wrote a chapter in the Physician’s Guide to the Diagnosis, Treatment, and Follow-up of Inherited Metabolic Diseases book.
He is also a Chair at the Newborn Screening Program at NGHA, member of credential committee board at Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG), member of Middle East Hyperammonemia and UCDs Scientific Group (MHUSG), member of and several international advisory boards, groups and committee. Dr. Alfadhel’s foresight and passion for innovation, earned him an award for inventing a new application in the Apple store and Google play for the treatment of inborn errors of metabolism Dr. Alfadhel’s current research interest is focused on studying genetic disorders related to inborn errors of metabolism and he contribute to discovery of >50 novel genes/diseases in the field of Genetic disorders.
Dr. Alfadhel received his bachelor degree in general medicine and surgery from King Saud University in Riyadh. He obtained his pediatric residency from King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh and received the Pediatric Saudi Board certificate followed by Pediatric Arab Board certificate and the Canadian Board in Biochemical Genetics. In addition, he carries a Neurogenetics fellowship certificate and Master of Health Science (MHSc) in epidemiology.

Dr. Mohammed Hussein

Dr. Mohamed Hussein is currently a senior research scientist and the chairman of the department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at King Abdullah International Medical Research Center, National Guard, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He has Over than 15 years of professional experience in biostatistics and bioinformatics with 10+ years in various leadership roles focused on building, mentoring and managing medium and large advanced analytics and data science teams. He has extensive working experience in the analysis and integration of high dimensional healthcare data sources such as electronic health records, insurance claims data, hospital records, disease registries and complex biological data. His research focuses on the application of advanced statistical and machine learning techniques such as Robust and regularized regression techniques, instrumental variable regression, propensity score and nested structural models, among others to a wide range of disease areas including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer. His research contribution has been published in several high impact journals among of which are diabetes care, American Journal of Respiratory Critical Care Medicine, and Value in Health. He served as former associate editor of the Journal of Infection and Public Health, and he is currently an active member of the American Statistical Association and the international society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research.

Prior to joining KAIMRC Dr. Hussein has served at several technical and leadership roles among which a Principal of Real World Data Analytics at IQVIA (formerly known as IMS Health), a multibillion dollars healthcare consulting company based in USA; The director Biostatistics and predictive modeling at ValueMedics research, a healthcare analytics and consulting company, based in Virginia, USA.; and a senior biostatistician at the Research and Innovation Center, at Humana Inc., a large health insurance company based in Kentucky USA, where he was responsible for developing machine learning and predictive models for plan members risk stratification and predicting healthcare catastrophic events.

Dr. Hussein has attained multiple graduate degrees from university of Louisville which include doctorate of philosophy of biostatistics, Master of Science in public health with focus on decision science and a master of computer science and electrical engineering.

Dr. Suliman Al Ghnam

Dr. Suliman Alghnam is the head of the population health department at King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KAIMRC). His background is in rehabilitation and physiotherapy and after obtaining his doctoral degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Alghnam completed a postdoctoral fellowship in trauma outcomes at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His research focuses on health outcomes of patients after traumatic injuries. He is experienced in analyzing nationally representative samples and estimating national statistics for health measures. His interests also include the global burden of injuries and trauma center improvement in developing countries. He published 30 papers in peers-review journals and presented in more than 20 national and international conference.

BRIEF SYNOPSIS

After completing PhD in 1999 from the University of Sheffield, UK which focused on developing the first TaqManTM system for allelic differentiation in collaboration with Perkin Elmer, Dr. Adeel played key role in establishing applied genomics research in Saudi Arabia. He contributed to establishing diagnostic Genomic Medicine unit at KAU that went on to becoming a Centre of Excellence in Genomic Medicine Research. All the way from implying automated Sanger sequencing to investigate malignant tumors in 2004 to establishing array CGH for studying intellectual disabilities in 2009; from hosting NGS in 2009 to 10x Genomics in 2019, a dynamic career and professional leadership remained hallmarks of Dr. Adeel. Since 2017, as director of CIPM at KAU, the focus is on restructuring the research groups while steering the previously established units at this centre into proactive diagnostic service providers. IVF and Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis units now provide advanced services in coordination with our first commercial arm GenaTi based at KAU. Keen interest in developing innovative therapeutics implying gene editing, epigenomics, immunomics, 3D bio-printing and tissue engineering, iPSC and gene editing are top priority and this will only be achieved by initiating and sustaining Inter-
institutional multidisciplinary teamwork. Also, supervise undergraduate and MSc as well as national and international PhD students registered with KAU.

PERSONAL RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC INTERESTS:

Principle investigator and co-investigator on several projects addressing autism, intellectual disabilities, targeted drug therapy in Meningeomas, customized chip development for Breast Cancer susceptibility genes, duchenne muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy, juvenile myoclonic epilepsy and more recently microcephaly.

Apart from research as a Professor of Human Molecular Genetics; Dr. Adeel continues to deliver his academic responsibilities at the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, supervise postgraduate students, organize expert lectures, establish PhD program in Medical Laboratory Technology. He successfully hosted first Mawhiba program in coordination with MoE for the extraordinary gifted and talented young Saudi students which later on won ISEF- Intel awards.
