Dr. Wasfi Al-Azzam
He received his BS degree in Biology from Yarmouk University Irbid-Jordan in 1996 and MS degree in 1999 from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara-Turkey. In his master research, he started investigation liposomes nanoparticles using various types of fatty acids formulated with various cationic metals, vitamins, and cholesterol. He elucidated many molecular interactions between liposome structure and formulation components and could produce preliminary stable liposome formulation of anticancer drug Tamoxifen©. During this period, Dr. Al-Azzam was introduced to the field of drug delivery and formulation with many spectroscopic research tools. Then he moved to the university of Houston, TX-USA for PhD studies. But soon he got PhD scholarship and moved with his new advisor to even more humid area to complete his PhD in University of Puerto Rico, San Juan- Puerto Rico. He was lucky to work with Dr. Kai Griebenow, Max Blank Institute graduate and post Doc of MIT. Dr. Al-Azzam worked with well know team in the field of biopharmaceuticals encapsulation and delivery from sustained release biodegradable polymers. In 2005, he joined Bayer Health Care in RTP-NC as formulation and delivery scientist. Four years later Dr. Al-Azzam joined GlaxoSmithKline to establish biophysical characterization team. Dr. Al-Azzam still enjoying working with GSK where he has held few roles and positions. Dr. Al-Azzam has many international collaborations with academic, regulatory, and industrial institutions. He contributed to the scientific community by serving few scientific organizations such as journals and grant sponsors. He published several peer reviewed articles, a patent holder, and as invited speakers.
